Malaysian police arrested 13 suspects, aged 24 to 36, on November 4 in Malacca while dismantling a group suspected of running romance scams and fake cryptocurrency exchange schemes. According to Foresight News, citing The New Straits Times and Bernama, the group contacted Chinese victims through Telegram, QQ and Soul, using romantic relationships and promises of high returns to persuade them to transfer money for fake cryptocurrency trades. The group had reportedly operated at the location for about three months. Police said the total losses remain under investigation and seized 12 laptops, one desktop computer and 26 mobile phones, among other equipment.
