According to Jin10, China's Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng called for mutual respect and a stronger foundation of trust in U.S.-China economic and trade cooperation at a dinner during the US-China Business Council's 2026 China Operations Conference on November 3, 2026. He said the two countries differ in history, culture, social systems, and development paths, making respect for those differences essential, and urged a rational approach to differences and a practical approach to disagreements.
Since last year, the two countries' economic and trade teams have held eight rounds of consultations, and “mutual respect” has appeared repeatedly in their joint statements. A new round of consultations in September reached 10 positive outcomes, including establishing and advancing mechanisms such as a trade council, an arrangement for reciprocal tariff reductions worth $30 billion, and extending the results of the Kuala Lumpur economic and trade consultations.
Xie said these outcomes were reached through mutual respect and equal consultation, responded to market needs and industry concerns on both sides, and created a more stable and predictable environment for businesses. He said greater understanding, trust, and consensus through mutual respect would help expand areas of cooperation, reduce outstanding issues, and open up broader opportunities for bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
