Deutsche Bank has raised its rating on the technology sector to overweight, reversing an earlier downgrade to neutral this month amid persistent market volatility. According to Sina Finance, analyst Parag Thatte wrote in a client report sent last Friday that the sector’s relative performance had fallen to the lower boundary of its long-term trend channel, a level that had preceded five V-shaped rebounds over the past two and a half years. Since Deutsche Bank cut the sector to neutral on October 9, the Nasdaq 100 has fallen about 8%, including a 3.5% drop last Friday. Thatte said the risk-reward now supports an overweight rating on technology and that a trend reversal could lift the broader market. He added that in previous rotations into technology, the sector gained an average of 32%, outperforming the other S&P 500 constituents by 30 percentage points, while the S&P 500 rose an average of 16% over three months.
