Google DeepMind researchers say AI’s ability to collaborate, rather than improvements in individual capabilities alone, could drive abrupt economic changes. According to ChainCatcher, Alex Imas, Andrew Koh and co-founder Shane Legg wrote that individual AI gains will affect wages and prices gradually, while market concentration, employment and wages could shift sharply only after multi-agent collaboration passes a “super-collaboration” threshold.
The article divides AI development into four stages: minimal AGI, super-competent AI, super-collaborative AI and ASI. It says today’s AI is strong in individual capabilities but weak at collaboration, and that changes in wages and jobs will precede changes in corporate structures. The authors call for benchmarks to measure multi-agent organizational capabilities.
