According to Wallstreetcn, New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection Commissioner Sam Levine said a new enforcement unit will launch within weeks to target predatory business practices, with the gig economy among its priorities. The 36-person team will extract and analyze billions of records to build cases against predatory businesses, focusing on issues such as why ride-hailing drivers are paid differently for the same trip. The unit will use company data to track pricing and violations of New York City wage and scheduling laws, and it is expected to be fully operational in October 2027.
