US Treasury Yields Fall as Prices Rebound After Fed-Driven Selloff

U.S. Treasury prices rose on Thursday, led by intermediate maturities, as they recovered most of Wednesday's losses triggered by the Federal Reserve decision. According to Sina Finance, long-dated Treasury yields also fell, with the 30-year yield dropping to a one-week low. The yield curve on U.K. government bonds flattened sharply after the Bank of England decided to pause sales of gilts from its balance sheet until April and fully cancel long-dated gilt sales. According to Sina Finance, the 30-year U.K. gilt yield fell about 12 basis points at the close, while the 5s30s spread narrowed by about 8 basis points. WTI crude oil futures fell as much as 3.3% and settled down 0.5% before moving lower again. According to Sina Finance, swap markets showed expectations for a 14-basis-point rate hike at the October Federal Open Market Committee meeting and a combined 33-basis-point increase in October and December. At 4:35 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time, the 2-year Treasury yield was down 6.8 basis points at 4.6684%, the 5-year yield was down 9.6 basis points at 4.7847%, the 10-year yield was down 8.8 basis points at 4.9344%, and the 30-year yield was down 7.4 basis points at 5.2867%. The 5-year and 30-year yield spread rose about 2.2 basis points to 50.03 basis points, while the 2-year and 10-year spread fell about 1.8 basis points to 26.39 basis points.
