Industry sources said Samsung Electronics' new Galaxy Z foldable smartphone saw higher sales in South Korea after Apple launched its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo. According to Sina Finance, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales in South Korea rose about 10% in the week after the iPhone Duo launch.
Sources said some consumers delayed purchases while waiting for Apple's new product, then chose the Galaxy Z Fold 8. They also said the iPhone Duo's price and hardware specifications were among the factors South Korean consumers considered when making purchase decisions.
The 256GB version of the iPhone Duo is priced at 3.29 million won in South Korea, more than 1 million won above Samsung's 256GB Galaxy Z Fold 8. The 2TB version of the iPhone Duo is priced at 5.09 million won. The price gap is larger in South Korea than in the U.S. market, where the 256GB versions of the two smartphones differ by about $100.
