Micron Unveils 512GB DDR5 RDIMM for Servers, Plans 2027 Mass Production

Micron has unveiled what it says is the world’s first 512GB DDR5 RDIMM memory module for servers, with speeds of up to 9,200 MT/s. According to ChainCatcher, AMD and Intel are validating the module for future platforms. The module uses through-silicon via vertical stacking of DRAM chips to reach its capacity, and a server equipped with 24 modules could support up to 12 TB of memory. Micron said a single 512GB module is rated at 16W, while four 128GB modules together consume 44.2W, a reduction of more than 60%. Micron also said the module can deliver up to 1.4 times the performance of 256GB DDR5 in Spark SVM memory-intensive analytics scenarios. The product follows Micron’s earlier 256GB DDR5 RDIMM sample, which also supports up to 9,200 MT/s and uses 1-gamma DRAM and 3D stacking. Micron plans mass production in 2027 and has not disclosed pricing.
