PaymentsJournal Examines Stablecoins and Payment Orchestration in Latin America

PaymentsJournal published a deep-dive article on Latin America’s payment ecosystem, focusing on localization, cross-border settlement, stablecoins, and payment orchestration. According to ChainCatcher, the article also cited PhotonPay’s research paper, The Next Payment Infrastructure in LATAM. The article said Latin American countries are developing distinct payment systems, including Brazil’s Pix, Argentina’s Transferencias 3.0, and Mexico’s CoDi, while payment rails, currencies, providers, and regulatory frameworks remain highly fragmented. It added that stablecoins are becoming an important complement to cross-border payments by reducing some friction in liquidity and settlement, while local payment rails handle final delivery in domestic markets. PaymentsJournal said the next stage of the Latin American payments market may not be a single unified rail, but infrastructure that connects different local payment systems, currencies, and global liquidity. In that process, stablecoins and payment orchestration can play different roles: stablecoins can improve cross-border fund movement and settlement efficiency, while payment orchestration can connect and manage payment rails, providers, and fund flows across markets.
