ASIA MARKET OPEN | Hong Kong and Taiwan Open Higher While Nikkei Reverses; KOSPI Near Flat

According to Kabutan/MINKABU, HKET and Yahoo Taiwan, Asian equities opened mixed on Wednesday as investors weighed rising oil prices and a jump in US Treasury yields ahead of the Federal Reserve's rate decision, with Wall Street having closed lower overnight (Dow -0.63%, S&P 500 -0.45%, Nasdaq -0.78%). Tokyo's Nikkei 225 opened higher, rising 188 points to 63,672 at the open, but quickly slipped into negative territory after the bell as concerns over higher domestic bond yields weighed. The benchmark's decline briefly exceeded 200 points before steadying, and by around 10:00 it was little changed, up 3 points at 63,487. Seoul's KOSPI opened near flat, easing 16.02 points to 6,611.24 at the open before edging up to 6,627.95, up 0.01 percent, as of 9:15 a.m., with heavyweights mixed: Samsung Electronics was flat, SK hynix added 0.95 percent, LG Energy Solution rose 1.78 percent and Hyundai Motor fell 1.23 percent. The KOSDAQ opened down 4.04 points at 808.37. The won traded at 1,365.8 per dollar. Hong Kong stocks opened higher ahead of the city's policy address, with the Hang Seng Index up 122 points at 24,789 and the Hang Seng Tech Index up 0.5 percent at 4,311, before the benchmark reversed to about 24,650 shortly after the open. Lenovo rose 2 percent and Zijin Mining gained over 1 percent, while CATL fell 2 percent and Zhipu declined more than 3 percent. Taiwan's TAIEX opened higher, up 35.07 points at 45,546.56 and rising as much as 204.38 points to a session high of 45,715.87. TSMC opened down NT$5 at NT$2,375 before returning to unchanged near NT$2,380, while MediaTek added 2.03 percent. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite opened down about 0.2 percent and the ChiNext Index fell more than 0.5 percent in early trade.
