Ships Passing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait Drop to 6 After Houthi Capture of Yemen's Mokha

The number of ships transiting the Bab el-Mandeb Strait fell to single digits on September 10 after Yemen's Houthi forces captured the Red Sea port city of Mokha, about 80 kilometers from the strait, according to Jiemian News. Saudi industry magazine Middle East Logistics, citing relevant data, said only 6 ships passed through the strait by around 3 p.m. local time on September 10, down from 30 on September 9, 26 on September 8 and 29 on September 7. Of the ships that passed on September 10, 5 were carrying grain, crude oil, coal and fertilizer and were leaving the strait, while one vessel was entering it.
