MediaTek reported August consolidated revenue of NT$64.183 billion, up 32.4% from the previous month and 44% from a year earlier, marking a monthly record. According to ChainCatcher, revenue for July and August totaled NT$112.658 billion, while consolidated revenue for the first eight months of this year reached NT$413.991 billion, up 5.7% year over year.
The company said September revenue only needs to exceed NT$39.542 billion to meet the low end of its third-quarter forecast. MediaTek expects growth in its smart device platform business this quarter to offset the impact of its mobile business.
Based on an exchange rate of NT$32 per U.S. dollar, the company forecast third-quarter revenue of NT$152.2 billion to NT$159.8 billion, flat to up 5% from the previous quarter and up 7% to 12% from a year earlier. Gross margin is expected to be 46% plus or minus 1.5 percentage points.
MediaTek said flagship system-on-chip volume should largely offset weakness in other products, while third-quarter mobile chip revenue is expected to be flat to down in the mid-single-digit percentage range and smart device platform revenue is projected to rise in the mid- to high-single-digit percentage range.
The company also said ASIC design services and other businesses are supporting this year's outlook, with U.S. dollar revenue expected to reach the upper end of its original target range in the high-single-digit percentage range. Its data center chip business, developed through close cooperation with major U.S. cloud service providers, has produced its first AI accelerator ASIC and is expected to enter mass production in the fourth quarter. MediaTek said data center revenue could exceed $2 billion this year and raised its 2027 market share target for its addressable data center market to 15% to 20% from 10% to 15%.
