Samsung E&A said on Friday that it has won an engineering, procurement and construction contract worth 4.7 trillion won, or about $3.5 billion, for a fertilizer plant in Saudi Arabia. According to Sina Finance, the company said in a regulatory filing that it signed the EPC contract for the SAN-7 project with SABIC Agri-Nutrients, the fertilizer unit of Saudi petrochemical giant SABIC.
The plant will be built in the Jubail Industrial Zone in eastern Saudi Arabia and is expected to be completed in 2030. Once finished, it will produce 3,500 tons of ammonia and 7,700 tons of urea fertilizer per day, with all output designated for export. Samsung E&A also said the plant will use a carbon capture system to recycle carbon dioxide generated during ammonia production for urea fertilizer manufacturing, reducing emissions and improving efficiency.
