AI Data Centers May Split Between More Distributed Inference and Greater Consolidation

AI data centers could become either more distributed or more consolidated as demand grows. YZi Labs posted on X. @0x7SUN, founder of @flock_io, said inference may push compute outward because many inference workloads do not need massive, tightly connected clusters. He said that could make smaller sites with unused power viable as mini data centers. @mynameisdesmond, co-founder and CEO of @workstream_us, said consolidation may occur at another layer. He argued that AI remains highly capital- and resource-intensive, requiring talent, funding, chips and infrastructure at scale, which could allow the largest players to keep expanding their advantage.
