Hugging Face has expanded its robotics push with Microduck, a small robot that can walk autonomously and learn skills such as roller skating and laser projection. According to Sina Finance, Hugging Face co-founder Thomas Wolf said sales have topped 15,000 units and revenue has exceeded $6 million.
Wolf said the product is part of Hugging Face's strategy to offer low-cost, open-source AI robots for consumers and developers. He added that the company acquired Pollen Robotics in April 2025, and that the acquisition helped shape the move.
Hugging Face initially expected Microduck to sell at least 50,000 units in its first year, generating about $20 million in revenue. Wolf said the company has since raised its sales outlook.
According to the project’s GitHub documentation, training Microduck requires a simulation environment based on Nvidia GPUs and CUDA software. Hugging Face previously launched the Reachy Mini robot for consumers, developers, and researchers; it does not walk autonomously and relies mainly on vision, hearing, and voice for interaction.
