Amazon Web Services rebuilt Bedrock after early technical problems, according to Sina Finance. The new layer, called Project Mantle, was led by senior engineering manager Anthony Ligori and five other senior engineers using AWS's in-house AI coding tool Kiro.
Mantle went live in December last year. Months later, AWS added OpenAI models to Bedrock, and business accelerated. Caylent Chief Technology Officer Randall Hunt said some customers have shifted cloud budgets from Microsoft Azure to AWS, and that Bedrock now offers stable performance that is difficult to predict on Azure.
Amazon disclosed in July that the number of new Bedrock customers in the first half of 2026 exceeded the total for the service's first two years. It also said second-quarter customer spending on Bedrock exceeded the sum of all prior quarters. AWS said Bedrock is its fastest-growing, multibillion-dollar business and has hundreds of thousands of customers.
