OpenAI Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar said the company is accelerating efforts to expand AI into chip design, life sciences and financial services, while testing pricing based on business outcomes rather than usage. According to Odaily, OpenAI's enterprise revenue rose 32% from June to July, while the company's overall annualized revenue increased about 20% over the same period.
Friar said enterprise and consumer revenue each accounted for roughly half of OpenAI's business by midyear. She also said OpenAI cut the price of its low-cost Luna model by 80% recently, after which usage increased about 10 times. In cloud deployment scenarios, Friar said Luna costs less than Z.ai's GLM 5.3. OpenAI's Codex coding tool has reached 25 million users, and the company used its own AI models to help develop the Jalapeno chip, completing chip design tape-out in nine months.
