According to Axios, President Trump said the U.S. will ban Canadian alcohol, some dairy products and large motorcycles, escalating the trade fight between the two countries. The import bans take effect Sept. 29 and were imposed under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930, while the White House also said it will expand existing 50% tariffs to dozens of additional Canadian products, including some steel and aluminum goods, furniture and paper, effective Sept. 15. The administration removed some items from the tariff list, including cement, road salt and certain hospital paper products, after feedback from businesses. Trump also said in a Truth Social post that he would direct officials to shut Canadian-made products out of a broad range of U.S. government contracts unless Canada restores what he called full and fair reciprocity for American farmers and companies.
