According to CNBC, Corning and Qualcomm rallied on Tuesday after a pair of infrastructure deals boosted Wall Street's confidence that data center spending will stay strong. Intel rose 9%, Advanced Micro Devices gained 6%, Hewlett Packard Enterprise climbed 8% and Coherent added 7% as investors continued to favor AI-related infrastructure stocks.
Corning jumped 8% and said it is entering a multibillion-dollar partnership with Verizon to build fiber-optic cables for AI connectivity. The company said the move follows a multibillion-dollar deal with Amazon in June and Nvidia's pledge a month later to invest up to $3.2 billion in Corning to build three new fiber-optic manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and Texas.
Qualcomm said in a filing on Tuesday that it issued warrants to Amazon, allowing the cloud company to acquire up to $4 billion of Qualcomm stock. The pact also includes Amazon Web Services purchasing up to $60 billion of Qualcomm server chips and other technology. Qualcomm CFO Akash Palkhiwala said at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference in San Francisco that revenue from chips made for Amazon will begin to show up in the December quarter and will help the company reach its $15 billion data center revenue target for fiscal 2029. AMD CFO Jean Hu also spoke at the conference and said the total addressable market will now reach $3 trillion by 2030.
