Solana plans to activate its Transaction v1 upgrade on Wednesday, increasing the maximum transaction size from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes. According to PANews, the new format has already been running on testnet and devnet, while the existing transaction format will remain supported and wallets and applications will not be required to switch.
The upgrade gives developers more room for large cryptographic proofs, multi-party approval payments, and confidential transfers that previously required multiple transactions. It also removes Solana's structural transaction-size limit, which had capped transactions at 1,232 bytes, while Ethereum has no strict size limit.
Services that read Solana data will need to update to recognize the v1 format, or requests may fail. The location of priority fee information has also changed, and outdated software may display incorrect fees.
