Arbitrum Co-Founder Warns Against Comparing On-Chain Trading Costs by Fees Alone

Arbitrum co-founder Steven Goldfeder said traders should not fall into the "narrative trap" of comparing on-chain trading costs by fees alone. According to Odaily, he said Arbitrum One and Robinhood Chain both actively prevent harmful MEV such as frontrunning, while some chains that advertise low fees may carry higher MEV costs, leaving retail users with extra losses from frontrunning and sandwich trades. Solana co-founder Toly responded that Arbitrum currently has wider bid-ask spreads and higher fees, and that the cost implied by a 10% cut of fees alone is already higher than sandwich-trade rates. He added that if worse spreads are included, total costs are about 10 times higher by his estimate, and said a single-sequencer model that seeks to maximize shareholder利益 can never beat permissionless market competition.
