Since 2013, multiple countries have gradually begun repatriating overseas gold reserves, and the World Gold Council's 2026 central bank gold reserve survey showed that 19% of central banks increased the share of gold held domestically or diversified reserve locations over the past 12 months, up from 7% a year earlier, while the number of central banks storing reserves in vaults in New York and London continued to decline.
