ASIA NIGHT SESSION | Nikkei Futures Rise 810 Points on Waller Dovish Signal; Hang Seng Futures Firm, Korea and Taiwan Shut

According to Yonhap, HKET and JPX official data, Asian index-futures traded higher overnight after Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said he would back holding rates at this month's FOMC if incoming data confirm easing inflation pressure. His remarks trimmed rate-hike bets and lifted Wall Street, with the Dow up 1.18%, the S&P 500 up 1.06% and the Nasdaq up 1.40%; the CME-implied odds of a September hold rose to 49.5% from 36.8%, and the 10-year Treasury yield eased 3 basis points to 4.761%. The yen firmed past 156 per dollar. In Japan's overnight futures on the Osaka Exchange, the near-month Nikkei 225 index futures (September 2026 contract) settled the night session at 65,830, up 810 points, trading between a low of 64,660 and a high of 65,970 from an open of 65,100 (as of 06:00 Japan time, Sept. 5). Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index night futures closed 10 points higher at 25,667, while the FTSE China A50-linked mainland-shares gauge cited by HKET rose 0.9% to 6,055. Among U.S.-listed proxies, Baidu's American shares traded about 1.7% above their Hong Kong close; converted to Hong Kong dollars, Tencent's ADR was 443.76 (+0.22%), HSBC's ADR 167.96 (+0.75%), Alibaba's U.S. shares 110.98 (+0.80%) and Meituan's ADR 81.50 (-0.31%). In the prior cash session the Hang Seng had closed up 437 points at 25,650. Taiwan's index-futures night session did not trade, as the Taiwan Futures Exchange runs no after-hours session ahead of the weekend; the market is closed for the night session. South Korea is omitted this session: no morning report on the KOSPI 200 night-futures close for the overnight period was available, so no night-session figure is reported for Seoul.
