According to CNBC, U.S. reliance on China for key data center components is drawing closer scrutiny as Washington and Beijing compete for AI leadership, with analysts warning of higher costs and tighter supply chains for the AI buildout. President Donald Trump last week signed an executive order declaring a national emergency over an "extraordinary foreign threat" tied to bulk-power system equipment made abroad, and the order authorized the Energy Department to restrict or condition certain transactions involving components used in the grid and data centers. Analysts said Chinese suppliers account for large shares of transformers, switchgear, batteries and optical technology used in data center power systems, while U.S. data center capacity is forecast by S&P Global to rise from 62 GW in March 2026 to 152 GW by 2030.
