China's central bank said preliminary data showed that at the end of the second quarter of 2026, total assets of China's financial institutions reached 562.2 trillion yuan, up 7.7% year on year, according to Jiemian News. Bank assets totaled 497.98 trillion yuan, up 6.6%; securities firms' assets were 20.37 trillion yuan, up 29.8%; and insurers' assets were 43.86 trillion yuan, up 11.8%.
The central bank also said liabilities of China's financial institutions stood at 514.48 trillion yuan, up 7.9% from a year earlier. Bank liabilities were 458.37 trillion yuan, up 6.8%; securities firms' liabilities were 16.32 trillion yuan, up 36.6%; and insurers' liabilities were 39.79 trillion yuan, up 12.2%.
