Ford Tests Fathom Electric Truck Prototype in Las Vegas

Ford CEO Jim Farley posted photos and videos on September 1 showing two camouflaged Fathom prototypes driving through Las Vegas after high-temperature testing in the Nevada desert. According to Sina Finance, the vehicles carried the phrases "Camo Off in 2027," "This Changes Everything," and "Preorder early 2027," along with QR codes linking to a preorder page. Ford previously announced the Fathom name and pricing on August 6, setting a starting price of $29,945 including a $1,595 destination charge, or $28,350 before freight. The midsize pickup is positioned below most gasoline-powered Maverick trims. Fathom is the first production model on Ford's Universal EV platform. Kentucky's Louisville assembly plant is scheduled to begin prototype production in the first quarter of 2027, with customer deliveries planned for later that year and a 2028 model year. Ford said it has invested about $2 billion to retool the plant and that the new line will assemble vehicles 15% faster net than the factory's previous model. The base version is rear-wheel drive with a lithium iron phosphate battery, while an optional front motor and larger battery pack will create an all-wheel-drive version. Ford has confirmed BlueCruise driver assistance, bidirectional charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital key, and built-in Apple Maps. Range, power, and battery capacity have not yet been disclosed.
