Solana Foundation Chair Says Tokenization Could Drive a Long-Term Supercycle

Solana Foundation Chair Lily Liu said capital, assets, and ownership are moving toward 24/7 internet infrastructure, creating what she described as a long-term token supercycle. According to ChainCatcher, she said tokenization goes beyond putting assets on-chain and can change how assets are issued, held, financed, and traded in markets that never close. Liu said stablecoins have already shown that money can move on-chain globally, while financial institutions are pushing more assets onto blockchains and infrastructure is beginning to meet real-economy demands for speed and lower costs. She also said AI economic agents need programmable money. She said these trends could lead any asset with clear ownership to be tokenized, expanding distribution, financing, and trading channels. Over the past year, RWA trading volume on Solana reached hundreds of billions of dollars, including tokenized U.S. Treasuries, stocks, and private credit, while stablecoin transfers exceeded $4.7 trillion. Liu added that tokenization could help more investors bypass geographic, minimum investment, and qualification barriers, and allow assets to be used as collateral or to generate yield. She said on-chain markets remain far smaller than traditional markets, but the infrastructure could eventually reach 5.5 billion internet users worldwide.
