Greg Abel Says U.S. Data Center Construction Faces More Community Pushback

According to CNBC, Berkshire Hathaway CEO Greg Abel said there is growing resistance to data center construction across the U.S. and that the company’s interest in the buildout is mainly tied to power and electricity generation for those sites. Abel said Berkshire wants to do business with hyperscalers if their costs remain contained and if there is no impact on rates for other customers. He made the comments in an interview with CNBC's Becky Quick on Wednesday morning. New York State has enacted a moratorium on data center construction, while many other states have pending bans and restrictions of varying intensity. There are about 4,700 data centers in the U.S., and the number is growing. Mizuho analyst Vikram Malhotra said in a Tuesday note that investors think data centers could become a significant issue in the midterm elections.
