South Korea's Financial Commission said it will operate a digital asset task force through 2028 to prepare for the drafting and implementation of the Digital Asset Basic Act. According to Odaily, the commission also plans to advance subordinate legislation and build digital asset ecosystem infrastructure.
The commission said the current digital asset regulatory framework has mainly focused on cracking down on illegal activity and preventing investor losses, while rules covering business conduct, disclosure, and asset issuance and circulation remain insufficient. It plans to determine the main contents of the Digital Asset Basic Act within 2026 through the Virtual Asset Committee and consultations between the ruling party and the government.
South Korea is also pushing ahead with digital asset ecosystem development, with infrastructure expected to be improved around associations and other institutions. The law related to the institutionalization of security token offerings passed National Assembly review in January 2026 and is expected to take effect in February 2027. The Financial Commission said it will continue refining related subordinate rules and supporting systems.
