According to CNBC, NBCUniversal executives said the FIFA World Cup boosted Peacock's subscriber base, engagement and advertising revenue, while also reinforcing the role of Spanish-language programming in the streaming service's strategy. The World Cup final drew nearly 39 million viewers across Fox's broadcast and streaming outlets and about 24 million on Telemundo, Peacock and other NBC properties, according to Nielsen, while Telemundo and Peacock averaged 6.3 million viewers across the 104 matches. NBCUniversal chairman of global advertising and partnerships Mark Marshall said the tournament more than doubled revenue from 2022, and Cesar Conde said it brought new audiences and subscribers to Peacock. Peacock had 46 million subscribers as of April 30 and is expected to reach profitability in the second quarter. Telemundo also announced this week that it acquired the Spanish-language rights to the UEFA Champions League starting with the 2027-28 season.
