Spain PM Seeks Stable Ties After Trump Calls for Cutting All US-Spain Trade

Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on July 8 that Spain-US relations have a solid foundation and that he hopes to maintain stability in current economic, trade and diplomatic exchanges while attending a NATO summit in Turkey, according to Jiemian News. Spain's prime minister's office also said in a statement that it has good relations with the United States and has no intention of changing them. US President Donald Trump said on July 8 that he had asked Treasury Secretary Bessent to cut off all trade between the United States and Spain, and called Spain a "bad ally" within NATO. Trump has previously criticized Spain for not taking on what he described as its responsibilities in NATO affairs and said Spain does not support US strikes against Iran.
