Neymar broke down in tears at MetLife Stadium after coming on as a second-half substitute in Brazil’s 2-1 Round of 16 loss to Norway on Sunday, in what was likely his final World Cup game, according to Yahoo Sports. The 34-year-old scored an added-time penalty to cut into Norway’s lead after entering in the 67th minute with the score 0-0, but Norway scored twice late to eliminate Brazil.
Yahoo Sports reported Neymar was a late fitness question because of a calf injury sustained in May while playing for Santos FC and did not start any of Brazil’s matches. His penalty was his 80th goal for Brazil, moving him three ahead of Pelé’s men’s record, and the defeat marked Brazil’s first Round of 16 exit at the World Cup since 1990.
