AI TRENDS | Serenity Says Reports of Meta Cutting Capital Spending Are Misleading

Serenity said on X that information claiming Meta is cutting capital expenditures due to “overbuilding” is widely misleading. According to Odaily, Serenity said Meta only sells computing power when it has excess capacity, and the current situation appears to be the opposite. Serenity said hyperscalers such as Google reduced their allocation of computing power to Meta in March due to capacity constraints, citing heavy resource consumption by Meta’s internal projects. Serenity added that Meta then immediately faced computing constraints and was forced to sign contracts worth more than $48 billion with neocloud providers including CoreWeave and Nebius. Serenity said Meta sells computing power only when it has surplus capacity, and noted that many of its large contracts with neoclouds are take-or-pay agreements. Serenity forecast that Meta’s guided capital expenditures will rise as it builds more independent capacity.
