A 32-year-old man in France has been charged for allegedly taking part in a violent robbery targeting cryptocurrency holders, after suspects posing as police tried to force a family to hand over crypto assets worth about 20,000 euros.
According to Foresight News, Le Parisien reported that the incident occurred in March in Nancy, France, when three suspects entered a home while impersonating police officers.
The suspects allegedly attempted to coerce the victims into surrendering their cryptocurrency holdings, but failed after the victims’ daughter promptly called police. The suspects then fled the scene by car.
The report said information used to identify the target may have come from a data breach at the French crypto tax declaration platform Waltio in January.
