California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a pioneering executive order to address workforce disruption caused by artificial intelligence (AI). According to BeInCrypto, the order aims to prepare workers, small businesses, and communities for the economic impact of AI. It involves collaboration with universities, economists, labor specialists, and industry executives to draft policies and monitor job displacement trends. The initiative includes new severance rules, employment insurance, and transition payments for displaced workers. Additionally, the Employment Development Department will create a public dashboard to track AI's sectoral impact, while the Labor and Workforce Development Agency will recommend updates to the California Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act within 180 days. This move comes amid significant tech layoffs in Silicon Valley, with over 114,000 job cuts reported in 2026.
