U.S. House Agriculture Committee Chair Glenn Thompson and Democratic member Angie Craig have jointly written to U.S. President Donald Trump, urging the swift nomination of four commissioners to fill vacancies at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). According to Foresight News, the letter highlights the urgent regulatory challenges faced by the CFTC, including market volatility, rapid technological innovation, and evolving market structures. The lawmakers emphasized that the passage of the CLARITY Act would significantly expand the CFTC's oversight of the spot digital commodity market, necessitating extensive rulemaking procedures. They argue that a full five-member commission would produce more comprehensive and durable regulations, aligning with the Trump administration's previous request for increased CFTC budget. Currently, the CFTC is operating with only Chairman Selig in place.
