A recent poll conducted by Infratest Dimap for Germany's public broadcasting alliance reveals that Chancellor Merz's approval rating has plummeted to a historic low among all past chancellors. According to Jin10, only 16% of respondents approve of Merz's performance as Chancellor, marking the lowest support recorded for a current leader since the survey began in 1997. This represents a 5 percentage point drop from Merz's approval rating in April. Additionally, 83% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with Merz, an increase of 7 percentage points from the previous month. The disappointing figures reflect widespread discontent among Germans over Merz's failure to fulfill his campaign promises to revitalize the sluggish economy. His reform efforts have been hampered by internal conflicts within the ruling coalition and external factors, leading officials to downgrade economic growth forecasts and warn of rising inflation. The poll indicates that 69% of respondents believe Merz is unfit for the role of Chancellor, while only 25% hold the opposite view. Public dissatisfaction is particularly pronounced regarding Merz's communication style, with only 14% of respondents finding his communication persuasive. The survey was conducted via telephone and online from Monday to Wednesday, involving 1,303 German voters aged 18 and above.
