U.S. Central Command stated that on May 7, as U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers transited the Strait of Hormuz toward the Gulf of Oman, the U.S. military intercepted an unprovoked attack by Iran and retaliated in self-defense. As the USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta, and USS Mason transited this international waterway, Iranian forces launched multiple missiles, drones, and dispatched several small boats. No U.S. military assets were damaged. U.S. Central Command eliminated the threat and struck Iranian military facilities responsible for the attack, including missile and drone launch sites, command and control centers, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance nodes. Central Command has no intention of escalating the situation but is prepared and ready to protect U.S. forces. (Jin Shi)
