Paradigm researcher Dan Robinson proposed a new scheme called PACT (Verifiable Address Control Timestamp) to protect long-dormant Bitcoins, including early addresses of Satoshi Nakamoto, from future quantum computing attacks. This mechanism allows users to prove their control over an address via a timestamp without transferring assets or exposing on-chain activity. In the event of a future quantum attack, assets can be recovered in a quantum-resistant version of the Bitcoin network based on this proof. Compared to forced migration schemes (such as BIP-361), PACT avoids the privacy exposure issues caused by actively transferring assets, providing a more flexible upfront protection path for long-term holders.
