Kraken has submitted 56 million crypto transaction forms to the U.S. IRS for the 2025 tax year. Of these, approximately 18.5 million forms involved transactions under $1, and more than half involved amounts under $10. Data shows that only 8.5% of 1099-DA forms exceeded $600, and 74% involved amounts under $50. Kraken stated that the lack of micro-tax exemptions means crypto payments and staking rewards incur tax liabilities upon receipt, increasing the reporting burden on investors. Kraken proposes that Congress pass a broad inflation-linked micro-tax exemption policy and allow taxpayers to choose when to pay their staking rewards.
