South Korean Lawmaker Urges Focus on Stablecoin Legislation

A South Korean lawmaker has expressed concerns over equity restrictions on cryptocurrency exchanges, urging a focus on stablecoin legislation. According to Odaily, Kim Sang-hoon, head of the Digital Assets Special Committee of the People Power Party, highlighted these issues during an academic conference. He emphasized the need to prioritize the second phase of digital asset basic law related to stablecoins to avoid missing a crucial legislative window due to regulatory disputes over equity. Kim pointed out the emergence of the KRWQ, a stablecoin pegged to the South Korean won, as a significant challenge to monetary sovereignty. He stressed that legislation should provide market predictability, clear guidance for operators, and effective security mechanisms for users.
