The cryptocurrency and AI sectors have collectively raised approximately $250 million to support congressional candidates in the upcoming U.S. midterm elections this November. According to BlockBeats, this financial backing is aimed at influencing the political landscape in favor of industry-friendly candidates.
In February, A16z co-founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz donated $25 million to the Super PAC 'Leading The Future,' which supports AI-friendly candidates. This organization has raised around $75 million from billionaires, including OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman. When considering contributions from 'dark money' nonprofits, which do not disclose donors, the total rises to $140 million. Meanwhile, the largest Super PAC in the crypto industry, Fairshake, has independently raised over $134 million.
In January, Cantor Fitzgerald, a Wall Street firm previously led by current U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and now managed by his son Brandon, donated $10 million to the pro-crypto Super PAC Fellowship. Anchor Labs, the parent company of a major crypto platform, also contributed an additional $1 million to Fellowship PAC.
Elon Musk donated $1.6 million to his America PAC in March, a significant reduction compared to his contributions in 2024, which totaled over $250 million across various PACs. Anthropic has pledged $20 million to the nonprofit Public First Action, which has redirected some funds to Super PACs to influence the 2026 elections. Anthropic stands out in the industry by advocating for strict federal AI safety regulations, diverging from the majority of AI industry participants.
