Visa Crypto Labs has released a command-line interface (CLI) tool that allows AI agents to initiate secure and automated payment operations directly in the terminal environment, marking a further step in the implementation of "AI-native payment" infrastructure. This tool supports payments via text commands, eliminating the need for traditional API key management or manual intervention, enabling developers to allow bots, scripts, and automated processes to directly invoke payment capabilities. Visa states that this will significantly reduce the complexity of integrating AI systems into payments. The product is currently in the testing phase, and users can apply for access through their GitHub accounts. Visa points out that as AI agents evolve from "answering questions" to "performing tasks," including calling APIs, purchasing computing power, and completing machine-to-machine transactions, payment systems also need to be upgraded to support automated transactions in the command-line environment. Meanwhile, several industry players are also developing AI payment standards. Coinbase and Cloudflare are advancing the x402 protocol, and Stripe and Tempo have launched the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP). Visa has announced its integration of MPP to support card payments across its global network and complement other AI payment protocols.
