Ethereum's Future Roadmap Accelerated by AI, Says Vitalik Buterin

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has highlighted an experiment where artificial intelligence was used to prototype the blockchain's roadmap up to 2030 in just a few weeks. According to Cointelegraph, Buterin expressed his admiration for the experiment, noting its potential lessons for developers. He shared on X that AI is significantly speeding up coding processes, suggesting that the Ethereum roadmap might be completed sooner and with higher security standards than anticipated. Vibe coding, a method where AI generates application code, has gained traction as AI models have improved in coding capabilities. However, there are concerns about the security of AI-generated code. Buterin acknowledged the "massive caveats" of using AI, pointing out that the rapid coding process could lead to critical bugs and incomplete versions of certain features. Despite these challenges, he emphasized the importance of the trend towards faster and more secure development. Buterin advised that the focus should not solely be on speed but also on enhancing security. He proposed that developers should balance the gains from AI by improving test cases, formally verifying code, and creating multiple implementations. He expressed optimism about the potential for bug-free code, which has long been considered an idealistic goal, to become a reality and eventually a standard expectation. Buterin has been actively discussing the Ethereum Foundation's recently released roadmap, known as "Strawmap," which outlines planned upgrades for the next four years. He has also proposed making Ethereum quantum-resistant and mentioned that account abstraction, or smart accounts, could be realized within a year.
