Bill Gates apologized to Gates Foundation staff for his past association with Jeffrey Epstein, calling it a “huge mistake” that cast a shadow over the organization’s reputation, The Wall Street Journal reported. Speaking at an internal town hall, Gates said he did not participate in Epstein’s crimes, acknowledged two affairs that Epstein later learned about, and said the relationships did not involve Epstein’s victims. Gates said he met with Epstein from 2011 to 2014 and once flew on Epstein’s private jet, but did not stay overnight or visit his island. A foundation spokesperson said Gates addressed questions candidly and took responsibility for his actions.
