The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has issued a notice banning video ads and posters that Coinbase ran on the London Underground and in train stations last August. The ASA stated that the ads, by showcasing the hardships of rising living costs and unemployment, accompanied by lyrics like "Everything's fine," implied that consumers should make financial changes. The regulator believes these ads positioned Coinbase as an alternative to the traditional financial system, downplaying the risks of cryptocurrency. Coinbase responded that the ads aimed to spark discussion about the current state of the financial system, not to offer simplified solutions. In response, Brian Armstrong posted on the X platform that updating systems and improving society are not political statements, but rather statements about the failure of the traditional financial system and cryptocurrency as a means of improvement.
