AI TRENDS | Marc van der Chijs Warns AI Could Trigger Systemic Shock

Marc van der Chijs, co-founder of Bitcoin miner Hut 8, warned that artificial intelligence could spiral out of control and cause systemic shocks to the banking system and critical infrastructure. According to Sina Finance, he said he has sold a large amount of Bitcoin to invest in AI and is now reallocating some of those profits back into crypto. Van der Chijs said he still expects AI to change the economy, but he is increasingly questioning whether humans can keep control of its development. He also said Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has issued similar warnings and urged technology leaders to slow frontier AI development. He said AI could expose vulnerabilities in traditional banking software and undermine confidence in institutions that rely on interconnected systems. In crypto, he said exchanges and other businesses built around Bitcoin are more fragile than Bitcoin's underlying network. Despite his concerns, Van der Chijs said he remains bullish on AI's economic potential and expects AI and robots could eventually perform 90% to 95% of existing jobs. He also said investors shifting capital into AI is one reason Bitcoin has not risen to the $200,000 to $250,000 level he and others expected.
