US Justice Department Antitrust Official Says AI Safety Coordination Is Not Anti-Competitive

Stanley Woodward, head of the U.S. Justice Department's antitrust division, said on Thursday that coordination on safety issues does not amount to anti-competitive behavior. According to Sina Finance, he said the department is reviewing whether to update current guidance to allow companies to coordinate on cybersecurity. Woodward said the antitrust division is willing to meet with companies, but frontier AI labs have not yet requested talks on antitrust issues. Teresa Ribera, the European Commission's executive vice president for antitrust, also spoke at the event and called for stronger coordination among regulators and between regulators and companies.
