Ripple Expands XRP Ledger Developer Kit to Support MPP and Open Wallet Standard

Ripple said it has expanded its XRP Ledger developer kit to support the machine payment protocol and open wallet standard jointly developed by Stripe and Tempo. According to ChainCatcher, the XRPL AI Starter Kit 1.1 update adds support for these standards, allowing AI agents to pay for online services such as data and computing using tokens including XRP and RLUSD. RippleX product lead Jazzi Cooper said Ripple aims to make XRP and RLUSD the preferred payment options for developers building applications. The machine payment protocol lets AI agents pay on demand, with service providers quoting a price, agents authorizing payment, and resources delivered afterward. Ripple has also supported the x402 network payment standard since June. The open wallet standard allows agents to initiate transactions without accessing private keys and includes safeguards such as spending limits and whitelisted destinations. Ripple said XRP payment channels are suited to small, high-frequency payments, allowing agents to deposit XRP once, run hundreds of paid queries, and authorize small payments one by one while service providers collect cumulative funds without putting each query on-chain. Single payments already support tokens including RLUSD, but continuous payment sessions are limited to XRP, and adding stablecoins to the channel depends on a proposed ledger upgrade. The payment software remains in testing.
