CLARITY Act Could Get Another Chance in Congress During Lame-Duck Session

The CLARITY Act could still return to Congress during the post-election lame-duck session after failing to advance in the Senate this week, according to Digital Sovereignty Alliance managing director Adrian Wall. According to Cointelegraph, Wall said Wednesday that he has spoken directly with senators from both parties who are considering another attempt to move the crypto market structure bill before the current Congress ends. He said there is still interest in bringing the legislation forward, although he described the effort as difficult and unlikely to succeed easily. Wall added that the possibility came from senators themselves rather than congressional staff, and said lawmakers on both sides have discussed a strategy to engage the other party and see whether there is a last chance to advance the bill. The comments followed Tuesday’s failed Senate cloture vote, which left the CLARITY Act short of the 60 votes needed to proceed. Wall called the vote a huge blow, but said it did not necessarily mark the end of the legislation. If another attempt during the lame-duck session fails, Wall said the next Congress could pick up the pen on crypto market structure legislation. The Digital Sovereignty Alliance is a nonprofit advocacy group that works with lawmakers and regulators on digital asset policy.
